He is a picture of pride and obsequiousness, self-importanceand humility At Longbourn having been told that Jane was likely tomarry Mr. Bingley, Mr. Collins decides to propose to Elizabeth Bennet,having no feelings of diffidence with all his solemn composurebecause he supposes this is only a regular sidetrack of business.First, he asks for a private conversation with Elizabeth. BeforeElizabeth has met Mr. Collins, she was in general struck with hisextraordinary deference for Lady Catherine de Bourgh, but after shesees him, her abominate towards Collins is even stronger. At theNetherfield ball, Mr. Collins requests the first two dances withElizabeth that let her feel herself completely taken in. In themeantime, she also realizes that her pay back is planning a marriage forher, but she has never expected this proposal. Therefore, thisproposal gives Elizabeth a blush of surprise. She immediately triesto avoid for not having a private conversation with Mr. Collins andsays I am going external myself which shows she wants to escape from theembarrassment. However, her mother insists upon Elizabeth staying andhearing Mr. Collins.
